RIP Gab

Andrew Tarda announced the death of Gab with this post today:

If images and video were of actual monetary concern, there are myriad ways of solving the issue without making non-pro users text only. What he’s doing here is driving off the actual free speakers. The problem is, he’s also driving off the numerous group communities that also make Gab worthwhile, like cooking, gardening, grilling, photography, animals, etc. Basically, he’s killing Gab.

Tarda’s post comes after I saw this one earlier in the day, which concerned me more:

To understand who Team A and Team B are, you would have to follow the actual free speakers, notably people like Judge Dread, as he is the one who coined the term. This is something that won’t be able to be done on the site for that much longer.

I’ve seen this too many times over the past two decades and by sheer coincidence it’s during election years. Gab will shift squarely to retarded or mainstream-right takes by the fall prior to the election and a couple of years from now it will be far-left (by definition fully retarded). This is regardless of who they install in various positions in this coming election. And this is if the site isn’t gone by then:
